Let us consider the problem of modelling of a fish population. Before we can express the model mathematically, we need to agree a notation, we shall use. In the first stage of modelling we shall use following variables:

1. b = the birth-rate;
2. d = the death-rate;
3. t = the time;
4. P = the population of fish.
